Releasedate: 17.02.2006 www.allmyfaults.info
all:my:faults was originally founded in zwingenberg, germany, on march 13th,
2003 by steve:becker who had just left his old alternative band where he sang
and played bass. he always had ideas that didn’t quite fit in an alternative
combo and after he had left, he began writing more of his own music and
performed alone in some local clubs.
despite not having too much success with his former band, a:m:f pressed forward
more than expected, yet steve:becker didn’t want to play gigs just on his own
using tapes for everything but vocals and guitars, so he concentrated on the
songwriting and waited for the right live musicians to launch a:m:f as live act.
he released some press demos, continued writing songs and performing them on his
own at private shows. going new musical ways, atmosphaeric, conterintuitive-melancholic
with earwick-melodies and roots in goth-pop and darkwave he delivered all
qualities of a resounding success, decorated with modern keyboard-elements and
driving guitar-sounds.
with “your anniversary” the first official release of a song on the
newcomer-sampler “return to light vol. 01″ came out under the label bright light
records in march 2004 and another press release called ‘euthanasia: memento mori’
followed shortly after.

fast forward to winter 2004. after beeing asked to play some gigs in german
clubs and some in luxembourg, steve:becker finally found two fellows to work
with for the live performances as session musicians. danny:riedner (ex
black.in.mind, angerecton & mechanical moth) delivered the live guitars and
ethan:kemp (ton sur ton) played keys and supported steve:beckers voice with
backing vocals. thomas th (th-industry)
joined the live lineup to arrange the synths and more keyboards at several shows
and is up to now a:m:f session musician and good friend of the band.
well, back to winter 2004. it seemed like steve, danny and ethan matched
perfectly, so they decided to create the future of all:my:faults together. a
month later jonas:greene (ex byrons forgotten feast [los angeles] and ex
angerecton) was hired for additional vocals and keys to complete the live lineup
for now. danny and jonas already worked together as bandmates of the deathmetal
act angerecton (rip) so it was not much of a surprise that the new supplement
was very well from the first moment on. all:my:faults played a few gigs in
germany, some announced, some not, and the response was amazing. juiced by an
overwhelming fan response after the last live gig they played and a wealth of
ideas for new material the band decided to concentrate even more on their future
success. steve expanded his studio in zwingenberg to increase the quality of the
newest production and danny and jonas left angerecton to fully concentrate on
all:my:faults.
only few weeks later it showed up, that the line up wasn‚t so perfect and in
april 2005 the band parted ways with ethan:kemp due to his lack of motivation.
steve, danny and jonas began a creative marathon of writing songs and lyrics for
their upcoming promo, working on their live performance and creating demanding
artworks to support the bands appearance and image.

after two years of working alone steve:becker finally found two guys who where
willing to play a major role in the band he created. danny:riedner wrote new,
demanding guitars on all existing all:my:faults songs and the bands style went
in a slightly harder direction with more rock and metal influences and
jonas:greene who already designed artworks for bright-light-records and bands
from many different genres served a brandnew logo and created a new look for the
band’s releases and homepage.
a great surprise none expected was martin:wickler aka sathonys (agathodaimon),
who decided to join the a:m:f lineup as guitarist and additional singer after a
few rehearsals in july 2005. his musical ability and his long-time experience
with different well known bands and magazines are of huge value for
all:my:faults and with him, new influences supplement the stylistic variety of
new songs again.
the digestion of very personal feelings of steve:becker are still one of the
main aspects for the lyrics to deal with and his great new ideas for songs
surprise the band and the audience again and again. new lyrical influences by
jonas:greene (’fallen’,'don’t forget your valentine’ etc) and the new lead and
rhythm guitars, written and played by danny:riedner and martin:wickler can be
heard on the 2005 a:m:f recordings.

all:my:faults’s official e.p. “anger manifest” will be recorded between july and
october 2005 and released by the end of 2005. new live gigs are planned to
promote this upcoming release”

Fairy Tale Appeal

Fairy Tale Appeal
By Mary Jensen

fairy tale

As a child, I loved the Gem Classics Library of Fairy Tales. These were multiple books containing collections of the classic fairy tales - Emerald Fairy Tales, Sapphire, Ruby, Diamond, etc. I fell in love with fairy tales, and continue to enjoy them today. Why are so many people drawn to these stories, all around the world?

Fairy tales appeal to our very basic human needs. In Snow White we have a queen that epitomizes vanity and jealousy. Snow White is beauty. We can relate because even the best of us have felt these emotions, dealt with the insecurities of a world obsessed by beauty. These stories allow us to confront these fears and emotions. We see the dangers of being consumed with jealousy. The queen destroys herself in her efforts to destroy Snow White.

And the endings feel good, they leave us with a sense of rightness. We want to believe that good values will conquer over bad. At the same time, it appeals to our carnal nature. The villains don’t just disappear, or go to jail. The queen in Snow White is punished by wearing hot iron shoes. Versions of Rumpelstiltskin end in his stomping into the floor and tearing himself in two.

All around the world, people have been telling stories with the same themes. For example, almost every culture has a Cinderella story. What changed over time is the values and message of the tales. Victorian tales dealt with the wish fulfillment of good things come to those who wait, and had very passive heroines. Modern retellings generally have stronger, more active heroines, to reflect the independence of modern women.

Not only am I a fan of the traditional tales, I also seek out retellings. Robin McKinley and Donna Jo Napoli write wonderful young adult versions (though enjoyable for more than youth). For a fantasy targeted to adults, try Juliet Marillier’s Sevenwaters Trilogy. The first book, “Daughter of the Forest” is based on the tale of The Six Swans.

Since I can never get enough of fairy tales, I’ve even written a couple of my own, one based on Sleeping Beauty, and one on Snow White. If writing your own, you can change everything but the bare bones - the basic structure or theme. Change the motivations, the protagonist, the setting, whatever else you want. It will work as long as your characters are believable.

If you stray so far from the original fairy tale that it’s no longer recognizable, you may lose the ability to label it a fairy tale, but don’t let that stop you if you have a different story to tell. Does it matter the roots as long as it entertains?
