DARK FUNERAL

+++1993+++
Is when it all began when the mighty Lord Ahriman and Blackmoon (David Parland) founded the war machine we now know as DARK FUNERAL. They were later joined by Draugen and Themgoroth.

+++1994+++
The legendary, self-titled and self-financed, mini-cd is recorded at Dan Swanos Uni-Sound studio in January. It is released on May 4th to an unsuspecting world. And on that very same day, the band would have performed their very first gig at Luse Lottes Pub in Oslo NORWAY. After the recording sessions, Draugen (drums) leaves the band and is replaced by Equimanthorn.

+++1995+++
The band signs to No Fashion Records, which later turns out to be their biggest misstake yet, and start preparing songs for a full-length album. After a miserable attempt to record The Secrets Of The Black Arts at Uni-Sound studios (again with Dan Swano the band decides to relocate to Abyss Studio and re-record the entire album. In between the studio sessions a new song was written and added to the tracklist “When Angels Forever Die”. With engineer Peter Tagtgren (Hypocripsy) on board, the band finally gets the production they were looking for. Shortly after, DARK FUNERAL plays their first festival gig, Under The Black Sun I in Berlin. A few weeks prior to this gig Emperor Magus Caligula joins the band as vocalist and eventually becomes a permanent member. The band also shoots their very first video for the track “The Secrets Of The Black Arts” which is well received and played on music channels all over the world.

+++1996+++
January 28th the bands first full-length-album “The Secrets Of The Black Arts” is released upon the masses and the album is soon licensed to Metal Blade (North America) and Mystic Production (Poland). The line-up troubles which first saw vocalist Themgoroth and drummer Equimanthorn leave is soon elevated when co-founding member Blackmoon also leaves. Fortunatly they are more than compensated with the addition of Alzazmon (drums), Typhos (guitars) and Emperor Magus Caligula (vocals/bass). With the addition of Caligula (who most of you already knew as Masse Broberg, the original vocalist of Hypocrisy) DARK FUNERAL is brought to a new level of aggressivity and intensivity. Together with Necromass the band does the Satanic War Tour I throughout Europe. Also during 1996, the line-up of Emperor Magus Caligula, Lord Ahriman, Alzazmon and Blackmoon recorded their unholy version of Bathory’s “Call From The Grave” and “Equimanthorn” for the Bathory tribute, In Conspiracy With Satan. (These stunning cover tracks also appears later re-mastered for the re-titled re-release of the bands legendary debut “In The Signs…”.).

+++1997+++
The second leg of Satanic War Tour follows with Ancient and Bal Sagoth as support. Also, Dark Funeral plays their very first show in America at the Expo Of The Extreme festival in Chicago. After totally desecrating the unsuspecting American audience with their blasphemous stage show complete with impaled pigs heads on upside down crosses matched with the unholy members drenched in pigs blood and finishing the set off with Emperor Magus Caligula’s firebreathing. From there the band embarks on the “The American Satanic Crusade Tour” with Usurper in support. Originally the tour was supposed to also feature Acheron and Destroyer 666, but after too many hassles, both bands had to cancel. In September, the road dogs return to the Abyss studio to record “Vobiscum Satanas”. Ultra-raw and hyper-fast the unholy duo Ahriman/Caligula have delivered a record that even the last sceptics have to admit that DARK FUNERAL are spearheading Swedish black metal together with Marduk.

+++1998+++
The Ineffable Kings Of Darkness Tour with Enthroned and Liar Of Golgotha takes place with Dominion coming into the band as a session bass player. The band also does their second major festival appearance at the Swedish Hultsfreds festival. After the festival, Thyphos is kicked out and Dominion, (who originally was a guitarist), is taken on as the bands second guitarist and Caligula reverts back to doing both vocals and bass. Before the band heads out on the “Bleed For Satan” tour, with Cannibal Corpse and Infernal Majesty, Alzazmon (drums) leaves and the bands long time friend Gaahnfaust is being added to the line-up. (He was also in DARK FUNERAL back in 1996 for a short time.)

+++1999+++
DARK FUNERAL return overseas for another mini-tour “Black Plague Across The West” which finds the band invading, then destroying Mexico for the first time before they head north and lay to waste to the state of California. Afterwards they also embark on their longest and most successful European tour “The Satanic Inquisition” together with Dimmu Borgir.

+++2000+++
With engineer Tommy Tagtgren DARK FUNERAL record the EP “Teach The Children To Worship Satan” at the Abyss studio B (featuring the new song “An Apprentice Of Satan” and cover-versions from Slayer, Mayhem, Sodom and King Diamond). For the EP, the band also film a live video for “An Apprentice Of Satan”. DARK FUNERAL join Deicide, Immortal and Cannibal Corpse for the No Mercy festivals. After the departure of Gaahnfaust, Matte Modin (Defleshed) joins the band as a permanent member and makes his debut at the With Full Force festival. With Matte DARK FUNERAL becomes even faster and tighter. Wacken Open Air is added to the band’s enormous gig-list; even a chaotic Canadian/American tour is coming to a good end. Dominion and Caligula work on their logically titled side-project Dominon Caligula while Lord Ahriman, with members of Acheron, Incantation and The Electric Hellfire Club, form Wolfen Society. Due to popular demand for the first EP, DARK FUNERAL re-releases the landmark work complete with new a new cover and never before published photos, giving the fans a true taste of the history of the band.

+++2001+++
In January/February the band again enter Abyss Studio to record their third (and long awaited) full-length album. The new album “Diabolis Interium.” With the help of producer Peter Tagtgren and studio technician Lars Soke, DARK FUNERAL created the MASTERPIECE of their recording career thus far, a record which will surely be considered a mile-stone in the evolution of black metal in the future. Beside the usual highspeed-songs, DARK FUNERAL shows a new side, slowing down for “Goddess Of Sodomy”. An Apprentice Of Satan, already known from the last EP, was reworked for “Diabolis Interium.” Other highlights of the CD are “Armageddon Finally Comes” and the brutal opener “The Arrival Of Satans Empire” (which most would agree is THE crown jewel of the Dark Funeral catalogue). “Diabolis Interium” is an absolute MUST for every serious metal-collection, not only black metal fanatics!

Due to the overwhelming positive response of “Diabolis Interium” from the public and the press, DARK FUNERAL were able to secure deals that brought their music across to a much wider audience with licenses in Japan (Soundholic Co.Ltd), Brazil (Hellion Records), Poland (Mystic Productions), Romania (Rocris Disc), Bulgaria (Rocris Disc), Thailand (S.Stack Co. Ltd), Russia (Irond Records Ltd), Taiwan, Hong Kong & China (Magnus Music). With the exceptional response to the album in Brazil which was released through Hellion Records, another local label, Somber Records licenses the band’s entire back catalogue.

As soon as “Diabolis Interium” hit the streets, DARK FUNERAL once again hit the road. First they toured Europe, supported by Tidfall (NO), Anorexia Nervosa (FR) and Ragnarok (NO). On this tour the band brought in Mikael Hedlund (Hypocrisy) to play the bass. After this tour Mikael resumed duties with his main band. DARK FUNERAL recruited Richard Cabeza for the session bassist slot. The band also toured the US, supporting their long time friends Cannibal Corpse. With “Diabolis Interium”, the Swedish radio station ROCKET 95.3 FM nominated DARK FUNERAL in the category “Best Swedish Hardrock Band”. Other bands nominated at the same time and in the same category were Breach, Entombed and Arise.

+++2002+++
In October 2002 the band made their very first tour in the Far East. The tour included shows in Japan, Taiwan and Singapore. The band was the very first western extreme metal band to play Taiwan and Singapore. DARK FUNERAL received a warm welcome by the Asian crowd, who not only understood their brand of dark and majestic music, but also the essence of the band itself.

November 29th 2002, DARK FUNERALand MNW/No Fashion Records announced that effective IMMEDIATELY they were no longer contractually bound to Necropolis Records, who had licensed the bands 2001 masterpiece “Diabolis Interium” for North America. Official Termination of contract papers had already been delivered to Necropolis Records, putting an official end of DARK FUNERAL’s tenure with said record label. This was a result of Necropolis’ deliberate breach of contract with the band and label. DARK FUNERAL has since put this unfortunate incident behind them and begun moving on with the future.

After the Asian tour, guitarist Dominion felt that he could not give 100% to DARK FUNERAL and felt it was in everyones best interest to resign his position. He had felt his lack of motivation to dedicate himself to a full-time touring band was not fair to the band, and also wanted to explore other musical options. Dominion officially resigned upon their completion of the Asian tour. Dominion is and will always be regarded as a very good and close comrade and brother to the band.

+++2003+++
After the Asian tour, the band begin auditioning guitarists to replace the departed Dominion. A new guitarist was found in the form of Chaq Mol, who has a long history in different local Metal acts. He is also in the two man Doom/Black Metal project Mordichrist. He made his official debut with the band at Wacken Open Air 2003.

After a successful gig at the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany the band headed down to South America for a tour through Brazil, Chile and Columbia. This tour became one of the most successful tours ever undertaken by the band. During the tour the band recorded a couple of the shows with plans to release it as a live album! After sifting through the recorded material with their live sound engineer (Erik Lidbom, Hitfire Productions), “De Profundis Clamavi Ad Te Domine”; was born.

+++2004+++

DARK FUNERAL began the year by officially announcing their split from long time label MNW/No Fashion Records. Shortly after, the band signed a license deal with Regain Records for their amazing new live album “De Profundis Clamavi Ad Te Domine”. It was licensed to several other countries. On May 31st, 2005 it also finds its long awaited release in the US through Candlelight USA.

In January of 2004 the band partnered with Goatwhore (US) and Zyklon (NO) in Japan on the Extreme The Dojo Volume 9. Shortly after the band continue to tour with a spate of Mexican dates. A few festivals are also being executed, Spanish Piorno Rock (w/ Sepultura, Saxon, Destruction, Lacuna Coil among others), Finnish Tuska and X-Mass Festivals. The band appears as the headline act at Germanys Party San, Swedish Nordic Rage and LA:s Gathering Of The Bestial Legions Festival. The band also hit Italy together with Defleshed for a short, but extremely successful burst of dates. In December 2004 DARK FUNERAL then resumed touring by first playing Israel and then hitting Russia and Ukraine for the Black Winter Days Tour, together with Horned NecroCannibals and Icewind Blast.

+++2005+++
On January 20th 2005, DARK FUNERAL signed a new record deal with Regain Records. The band concentrates on writing material for a new full-length album yet still manage to perform at the Metal Mind Festival in Poland before finally joining the No Mercy Tour with Six Feet Under, Nile, Dying Fetus among others.

On May 23rd the band finally entered Dug Out Studios together with producer Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, In Flames, Strapping Young Lad, Behemoth a.s.o.) and Orjan Ornkloo (Misery Loves CO) to begin work on their new, long awaited full-length album. This, which will be Dark Funeral’s 4th full-length studio album is also their most eagerly anticipated recording in their now decade-long career. The band brings in Gustaf Hielm (ex Messhuggha) to play the bass on the record. On August 18th Dark Funeral’s new Masterpiece “Attera Totus Sanctus” was completed! Raw, fierce, and evil, Attera Totus Sanctus will rightly reclaim the unholy bands title at the top of black metals premiere elite. The release date is set for October 24th via Regain Records in Europe and November 29th via Candlelight in the USA. Further on the album will also be released in Japan on December 21th via Soundholic Ltd and in Brazil on (TBA) via Hellion Records.

Its not very often a Black Metal band hits the charts, but on November 2nd, 2006 Dark Funerals new masterpiece “Attera Totus Sanctus” entered the Swedish top 40 as Nr 35 and the Swedish Heavy Metal chart as Nr 3.

In November Dark Funeral begun working with Dragon Production, which is a division of A.S.S. Concert & Promotion GmbH. Dragon Production will handle the bands tour bookings in Europe.

Mentallo & The Fixer

Mentallo and the Fixer is the industrial brainchild of two brothers from Texas, Gary and Dwayne Dassing. Mentallo and the Fixer derived its name from a pair of comic book characters whose origins have long since faded into obscurity. The Dassing brothers were raised on rock music, so their first instruments were actually the guitar (Dwayne) and drums (Gary). However, this changed when the pair discovered a number of new wave bands whose music was heavily saturated with synthesizers. Dwayne specifically lists the Cars, early Orchestral Manouevres in the Dark, and especially Gary Numan as strong influences to Mentallo and the Fixer.

Around 1984, the brothers began acquiring synthesizers, discovering the inherent sonic possibilities that these instruments allowed. They began to experiment with these instruments, with recording techniques, and even rudimentary sampling with taped based equipment.

In 1988, the brothers added vocalist Rich Mendez to their roster, and adopted the name Benestrophe. They made two tapes as Benestrophe using only a 12-channel mixer and a $100 stereo TEAC tape deck (incidentally the same equipment used for the first Mentallo release), and surprised even themselves with its sound quality. Much of these tapes are now available on Benestrophe’s “Sensory Deprivation” CD and “Auric Fires” (RAS DVA). Benestrophe ended in 1990 when the Dassings moved to another part of the state, and then began their work as Mentallo and the Fixer. A DAT tape of “No Rest for the Wicked” was sent to Portugal’s Simbiose Records, and was released on vinyl in a limited edition of 500. (It was re-issued on CD by Metropolis in 1998 as a double CD with additional unreleased tracks and remixes.) A subsequent tape was sent to Talla 2XLC of Zoth Ommog fame, who signed the band to a three-record deal within two weeks.

Though actually their second album, “Revelations 23″ was their first proper release, and gained the attention of Metropolis Records, who began their long association with Mentallo and the Fixer with this masterpiece. Like its predecessor, “Revelations 23″ was filled with anger: snarling distorted vocals, hard cutting sequencer rhythms, and a thunderous beat. Their next CD, “Where Angels Fear to Tread”, displayed considerably less rage than their previous work. The CD showed tremendous musical growth and artistic maturity, being very complex and emotional, with dark Gothic overtones. The CD was met with almost universal acclaim.

In 1994, the Dassings joined forces with vocalist Michael Greene to create the trio Mainesthai, releasing “Out to Lunch” and “Mentallo Meets Mainesthai”, which was more melodic and humanistic than Mentallo. Both were released in 1998. 1996 saw Mentallo’s first national tour, which was met with rave reviews by both critics and audiences alike. Following this tour, Mentallo and the Fixer began on their next album, “Burnt Beyond Recognition”, which was released in 1997. In addition to the album, Gary and Dwayne put together two singles for “Burnt Beyond Recognition”, called “Centuries” and “False Prophets”.

1999 saw the departure of Dwayne from Mentallo and the Fixer. Gary continued on his own, with the release of the “Systematik Ruin” single and the “Algorythum” full length CD. Gary’s vision for this release was different from his previous work, with the incorporation of live drumming, a more experimental approach to electronics, and a more positive outlook on the state of things. Gary quickly returned in 2000 with another Mentallo and the Fixer album, called “Love is the Law” Following in the same vein as the previous release, “Love is the Law” was yet another endeavor into the more experimental and avant-garde style of electronic music. In 2001, Mentallo release “Return To Grimpen Ward”, an anthology which featured fourteen re-mixed and re-recorded tracks that spanned over the first ten years of the band’s career. That same year, M&TF returned with yet another new studio album, the ominious “Vengeance Is Mine”. Heralded as a return to form for Gary Dassing, it fused several elements from all of the previous releases, while at the same time showcasing an artist who was sticking to his guns during a time when dance-oriented club music was all the rave. Shortly after “Vengeance Is Mine” was released, Gary fell just below the radar…but he was not sitting silent. This industrial icon has been slaving away at new Mentallo & The Fixer tracks for the past four years to prepare for his newest sonic achievement: “Enlightenment through a Chemical Catalyst”. Teaming up with the up-and-coming Static Sky Records in 2004 (and at last being united on a label with his longtime friends Fektion Fekler!), Gary Dassing would finally return to his long-waiting fans. Expect the unexpected. This is Mentallo & The Fixer…phase two.

Edge of Dawn

Edge of Dawn

Edge of Dawn’s humble beginnings started off in 1998 as Mario Schumacher’s solo project. Influenced by Nine Inch Nails, Covenant, Front Line Assembly, Skinny Puppy, Front 242, Depeche Mode, and Mentallo & The Fixer, Mario released two web only demo albums in 1999, Sleep and Fear of the Unknown, through mp3.com. After working on his skills as a songwriter and sound designer for several years afterwards, Mario decided to join forces with a vocalist and found the right person in Seabound front man Frank Spinath. What started out as a temporary guest vocalist position became, on account of the chemistry between the music and vocals, Schumacher and Spinath became band mates. Since then, Edge of Dawn has become one of Germany’s hottest underground tips for intelligent electro.

Signing with Dependent Records in Europe, and Metropolis Records for North America, the duo is ready to release their debut EP, The Flight [Lux] for the end of 2005. Comprised of five original tracks and four remixes, the dichotomy between the songs, the lyrics, and the backgrounds encompass the central motives of the band. Seldom does a band achieve such contrariness in such a short amount of time, and even more seldom does the musical quality stay so high. Although their music sounds like it was created by a veteran of the dark electronic scene, this debut release is sure to garner much praise as the prelude to their upcoming debut album in 2006.

“Losing ground is what it takes—if you really want to fly…” that’s the first line of the chorus of “Losing Ground”—slightly poppy, if not downright optimistic. The encouragement to leave the ground beneath one’s feet and take off to the skies in flight, garnished with the optimism of traditional, positive synthpop would seem to set an unthreatening tone. But the next track delivers quite the opposite: “The Flight [Lux]” tells the story of the Russian Witali Kalojew, who loses his wife and two children in an air traffic control-related plane crash. Kalojew flies immediately to the scene and is taken to the crash site, where he finds the body of his own daughter. One and a half year later, the air traffic control operator responsible for the accident is found murdered in his house in Switzerland, the victim of multiple stab wounds. Witali Kalojew is arrested in a hotel just blocks away, having just recently checked in. “Losing Ground is what it takes—if you really want to fly.”

Gothicello

As the solo project GothiCello, Gerald Nicks is striving for a unique fusion of styles from Ethno Gothic and Industrial to Dark Jazz and Heavy Classical. GothiCello is creating music to raise the dead and calm the lost souls. Besides his primary instrument, a Ned Steinberger 5 string electric cello, Gerald plays piano, Native American flute, electronic and acoustic percussion, and sings.

Why this name?
Basically from “Gothic” and “Cello”, since no one snagged it. I’ve wanted to play electric cello for the longest time, so I am finally doing it and having a blast!

Do you play live?
GothiCello is primarily a home-studio project, although I’ve been known to haunt local art & music free-for-alls.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Access to great music any time anywhere by anyone. No longer must you be a superstar for your unique music to be heard.

Would you still sign a record contract with a major label?
I like total control over my artistic expression. I can still produce my own CDs and sell them on a label like Projekt.

Band History:
It started out as just dinkin around placing snippets on the ZeD site. Then I found MySpace and started getting more serious, producing a full-length song. So many song ideas, so little time.

Your influences?
Basically most bands on the Projekt and early 4ad labels. Dead Can Dance, Lycia, Fields of the Nephilim, The Cult, Cruxshadows, Arcana, Apocalyptica, Jill Tracy, Jami Sieber, Marston Smith, Johnny Cash, Unto Ashes, Rajna, Legion Within, Rob Zombie, Midnight Syndicate. I am inspired by graveyards, their smell, the wonderful grave angels, the untold stories from really old grave markers, and mausoleums to drool over. I am inspired by the depth of emotions that I can express from my personal experience. Other wonderful mutli-talented artists inpire me to go beyond and really stretch myself.

Favorite spot?
Colma, CA. The city of the dead!

Equipment used:
A GNX3 guitar effects board to record 5 string e-cello, guitar, vocals, Roland Handsonic, and voice. Guitar Tracks Pro to mix down. I have been dinkin around with Propellerhead’s Reason too.

Anything else…?
Sounds Like: Contemplative, expressive, and eclectic, the sound can remind one of soulful New Orleans dark-jazz and blues, bombastic classical musings, or peacefully hypnotic grooves to meditate by.

sinthetica

They are a dance/electronica band that takes their music very seriously. David Bowie once thought out loud, “These guys are the greatest thing since Ziggy.” Elton John has been to several Sinthetica studio sessions and has thought things like, “I love these guys.” He has been so affected by this group he denies their existence. He has never recorded with them because Elton is intimidated by Sinthetica’s longevity in the music business. Sinthetica claims their music has endured several centuries. Special A’s and Gregoncè’s ancestors composed and carved in stone the Seven Deadly Sins & the Seven Heavenly Virtues, the music you now have in your possession is your “Holy Grail”, drink from the Sinthetica cup and your cup will runneth over. These songs have traveled through time handed down by family members to the present day Special A & Gregoncè. The songs have been revised over this long time span, and finally recorded in 1931 by Joe the Artist’s grandfather. Due to the fact that this recording was far ahead of it’s time, so much so that all those who heard it destroyed it after a single listening – no copies survive. The world is now ready for its introduction to the genius called Sinthetica so, Special A and Gregoncè have decided to sell the family’s genius. They have remixed and simplified the original scores so the modern ear will understand it and not be inclined to destroy it. Do not let this biography intimidate the reader. They are humble geniuses and look forward to working with other professionals who will help them spread the word out to the world. However, you must be warned about the curse! “All that do not have the blood of our ancestors shall pay very dearly, if it is ever copied or performed by them.” This was translated in 1936 from cave carvings in Romania. Sinthetica’s music has been stolen frequently. Those that have not heeded the curse have paid dearly: Michael Jackson, Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, Janet Jackson (the curse works in many ways), Buddy Holly, and The Big Bopper, just to name a few.

Linkin Park

Linkin Park began in the surroundings of Mike Shinoda’s bedroom studio, where he and friend Brad Delson recorded the band’s first material in 1996. The two had attended Agoura High School together in Los Angeles-suburb Agoura Hills, where they met the band’s drummer, Rob Bourdon. Shinoda met up with DJ Joseph Hahn while studying illustration at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Meanwhile, attending UCLA, Delson shared an apartment with bassist Dave Farrell, who left the band after college and returned a year later. At this point, along with vocalist Mark Wakefield, they named themselves Xero (after revising the former name Super Xero) and recorded several demo tracks. They were never signed and the project floundered.

Shinoda advertised for a vocalist, choosing Chester Bennington, a transplanted Arizona native who started making records when he was 16. They immediately started to write and record music.

At first they called themselves ‘Hybrid Theory’ after the addition of Bennington (the idea being that they were a hybrid of hard rock and rap), but due to a trademark issue with a band called Hybrid they were forced to change their name. Some discarded ideas were Clear, Probing Lagers, Ten PM Stocker and Platinum Lotus Foundation. Eventually, they settled on Lincoln Park, suggested by Bennington because after band practice he would have to drive past Lincoln Park in Santa Monica to get home. However the domain “lincolnpark.com” had already been taken, and to buy it from the owners cost more than the band could afford, so they changed the spelling to Linkin Park.

Working with an independent label, the band recorded the album Hybrid Theory EP, which featured “Carousel”, “Technique”, “Step Up”, “And One”, “High Voltage”, and “Part of Me”.

After being signed to Warner Brothers in 1999 their first album, Hybrid Theory, was released in 2000. It was the top-selling album in the United States and New Zealand in 2001, with the hit singles “One Step Closer”, “Crawling”, “Papercut”, “In The End” and “Points of Authority”. The album was notable for its absence of profanity, in contrast to many other nu metal bands’ songs.

Linkin Park were part of the Ozzfest in 2001, touring along side Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Crazy Town, Papa Roach, and Disturbed. Linkin Park also created their own tour - Projekt: Revolution, and on it have toured with artists such as Cypress Hill, Adema, DJ Z-Trip, Xzibit, Mudvayne, and Blindside.

In 2002, they released a remix album of their Hybrid Theory album, entitled Reanimation, featuring many underground rappers, with an artistic direction mainly dictated by Shinoda and Hahn. They also released a remix version of their song, “Points Of Authority”.

In 2003 their new studio album was released, titled Meteora, which debuted at ..1 in the US and UK, and ..2 in Australia. It contained the singles, “Somewhere I Belong”, “Faint”, “Numb”, “From The Inside”, “Lying From You”, and “Breaking The Habit”. Later in the year, they joined forces with fellow nu-metal band Limp Bizkit and Metallica for the Summer Sanitarium Tour 2003. From this tour, Linkin Park released a new CD/DVD set called Live in Texas. This set contains tracks from their three previous records, and was filmed on location at their Summer Sanitarium performances in Dallas and Houston, Texas .

In 2004, Linkin Park created the Meteora World Tour. This tour included Linkin Park, P.O.D., Hoobastank, and Story of the Year.

In 2004, Linkin Park was touring with Snoop Dogg, The Used, Ko..n, and Less Than Jake on the main stage, and No Warning, Ghostface, Funeral for a Friend, M.O.P., and Downset on the second stage as part of Projekt Revolution 2004. They also had a travelling DJ, Z-Trip with them, along with Irvin the Urban Action Figure.

On November 30, 2004, Linkin Park released Collision Course, a collaboration with rapper Jay-Z featuring rap-style remixes (”mash-ups”) of songs from Meteora and Hybrid Theory using lyrics from Jay-Z’s repertoire. Collision Course debuted at ..1 in the US, but peaked at ..17 in the UK. In the Netherlands Collision Course topped the charts at 7th place. Their first Collision Course hit single, Numb/Encore, reached ..1 at the Free Record Shop Download Charts in the Netherlands.

On the eve of its initial public offering in May 2005, Linkin Park demanded to be released from its contract with Warner Brothers Music on the grounds of a lack of confidence. The band is in negotiations with the label over a new record contract. Linkin Park still has four albums outstanding on its 2000 record contract. [1]

Linkin Park is currently writing and recording a new album, set to be released in 2006 (although work has been stopped due to the contract re-negotiations). Mike Shinoda is also in the process of releasing a hip-hop side project called “The Rising Tied” under the moniker Fort Minor. It reportedly features several underground rappers, including Gift of Gab.

On July 2, 2005 Linkin Park performed in Live 8 at Philadelphia, USA, performing part of their set with Jay-Z.

Project Pitchfork

Project Pitchfork

Project Pitchfork have deservedly established themselves as
one of Europe’s most prominant forces in the industrial scene.
However, to simply label the band as industrial fails to do
their music justice, as they have a strong ethereal Gothic side
to them as well, as is strongly evidenced by their two Aurora
side projects, and a keen lyrical sense of social justice.

Their first album, Dhyani, appeared in 1991, blending
industrial strength beats with Teutonic, Mozart-laced rhythms,
and the courage to address such topics as animal research and
social revolution. Although subsequent releases did not contain
the lyrical strength of their debut, the musical growth inherent
in 1992’s Lam-’bras and Entities was phenomenal. Their
music now embraced not just Teutonic rhythms and
electroindustrial beats, but now contained synthetic
orchestrations, classical rock progressions and lush keyboard
gothic beauty. IO, the band’s first release on Metropolis
Records, continued this musical growth, with elements borrowed
from classical Baroque and the electronic wizardry of Klaus
Schulze thrown into their ever-expanding mix. This work was
described by the Alternative Press as being “wondrous, majestic,
beautiful, haunting, everything.”

Pitchfork Official Web Site

In 1998, Metropolis Records arranged to release the two full
length CDs that had emerged since IO; Alpha Omega,
and Chakra Red. Along with the two back-catalogue
releases, the Eon:Eon full-length and the Steelrose
single were released.

In 2001, Project Pitchfork released Daimonion. Several
distinct influences could be heralded within the album; guitars
and synths play among the climatically close cluster of sounds
while beats in all forms penetrate the clear melodies. Retaining
their muse of inspiration, Daimonion states and
criticizes situations that one faces to tell the story of
present day life.

The Nun Trilogy came next. The first part of the
trilogy was 2002’s album, Inferno, in which the band
re-invented itself as a more accessible electronic industrial
rock band. The final two pieces of the trilogy (released in
2003) were the View From a Throne and Trialog EPs.
All three releases consume the topic of “Nun” which is based on
the insight that the essence of the individual is to be found in
a state of perpetual eternity, an eternal now. Inferno, View
From a Throne
, and Trialog enlighten us to the
realization that we will never live in the past or future, but
we will always be in the present, which is what makes the “Nun”
trilogy so timeless.

Project Pitchfork has a long history of exceptional releases
dating back nearly a decade. With each release, they never fail
to please and this was solidified in 2004 when Project Pitchfork
released their long awaited first ever live DVD entitled Live
2003
. The DVD documents the energetic impressiveness that
has become Project Pitchfork’s trademark.

The band is back in the saddle following up their 2002 album
Inferno with Kaskade for 2005. A myriad of topics
run through the album, all for the listener to explore and make
their own interpretation. Kaskade is a flowing piece of
musical artistry that does not conform to one style, but

Front Line Assembly

Front Line Assembly

Front Line Assembly is the primary focus of Vancouver-based
musician Bill Leeb. A founding member of Skinny Puppy, Leeb moved on
to form FLA in 1986 with Michael Balch, releasing some cassettes
(since released as Total Terror I & II) which paved the way
for their 1987 releases: The Initial Command, State of Mind,
and Corrosion. In late 1988, they recorded the mini-LP
Disorder
, since combined with Corrosion and released as
Corroded Disorder. Their 1989 release, Gashed Senses and
Crossfire
, further cemented their popularity in the industrial
scene, and prompted their first world tour. By 1990, Balch had
departed and Rhys Fulber rounded out the duo, releasing Caustic
Grip
. But it was two years later when the duo released what for
many has become the genre’s crowning moment, the classic album
Tactical Neural Implant
, which to this day still defines the
best of industrial music.

FLA enraged many of their fans in 1994 when they began to
experiment with their established electronic-only sound.
Millenium
, with its heavy doses of live and sampled metal
guitars, dared its audience to grow and expand with the band beyond
industrial’s perceived barriers. Front Line stepped to the firing
line again in 1995 with Hard Wired, which reflected both a
return to form and a continued embracing of the guitar. Hard
Wired
not only picked up where Implant left off, it
improved on the sound by adding in elements of all of their side
projects. A fall European tour was recorded for the 1996 release
Live Wired
, their first concert CD ever. Also in 1996, Front
Line Assembly followed up Hard Wired with two CD singles,
“Circuitry” and “Plasticity”, and toured North America with Numb and
Die Krupps.

1997 saw the first realignment of Front Line Assembly since 1990,
with the departure of Rhys Fulber and the addition of Chris Peterson
to the ranks. Front Line’s 1998 album, FLAvor of the Weak,
featured the band’s first flirtation with electronica. Re-Wind,
a twin CD of remixes, followed later that year. The duo then
released Implode in 1999, and Epitaph in 2001.
Epitaph
exhibited building intros, trancy synth lines, pulsing
beats, and solid melodies, which proved to be contagious anthems for
a new future of industrial music.

After the 2001 release of Epitaph, another changing of the
FLA “guard” occurred: Chris Peterson left, and original member, Rhys
Fulber (Fear Factory, Conjour One) returned. The newly charged Front
Line Assembly returned in late 2003 after a two year hiatus to
deliver the highly anticipated Maniacal single. With Rhys
Fulber joining forces once again with Bill Leeb Front Line Assembly
is set to deliver a straight up industrial rebellion to the
future-pop ruled world of electronic music. The successful single
laid the ground work for a brand new FLA album and era in industrial
music. Following up on Civilization, the duo released the
Vanished
EP which features three unreleased tracks. They say
time can weather all things, but it has left FLA unscathed. They
have remained an influential force in music, and continue to put
excitement and adrenaline into industrial music.

Bill’s work can also be heard on a wide number of side projects,
including Noise Unit, Delerium, InterMix, Cyberaktif, Equinox, and
Synaesthesia. Bill has also contributed music to the popular video
game, Quake 3 - The Arena.

Diary of Dreams

Diary of Dreams

Diary of Dreams is the brainchild of Adrian Hates, also founder
and owner of the European label Accession Records. Adrian is also
well known for his vocal work for the German gothic rock act Garden
of Delight’s earlier releases. The idea for Diary of Dreams
originally came about in 1989, but it wasn t until 1994, when Adrian
teamed up with guitarist Alistair Kane, that their first album,
Cholymelan
, was released. This CD received praise from both fans
and the underground media, but it wasn t until the second album,
End of Flowers
, that things really took off for the band.

This record, the first release on Accession Records, gave the
band a permanent place on the goth/darkwave scene, and several
tracks were featured on compilations. The combination of orchestral
compositions and intimate piano parts, layered with emotional vocals
and metaphorical lyrics, struck a chord with many listeners and the
group’s fanbase rapidly increased. Adrian and Alistair continued
working on new material, and within a year their third CD, Bird
Without Wings
, was released. More praise followed, combined with
major European appearances. The album allowed Diary of Dreams to
achieve a cult status around the world.

In 1998, Olaf Schaning and Christian Berghoff were added to the
band, creating a steady base for the band’s live performances, as
well as introducing new ideas and visions to Diary of Dreams. Their
fourth album, entitled Psychoma, featured a greater sonic
complexity than their earlier work.

In 1999, Diary of Dreams came on board with Metropolis Records,
North America’s premier goth/industrial label, and released
Moments of Bloom
. Not really a compilation, Moments of Bloom
reworked two songs from each of the band’s previous four records and
added four new tracks. Each older song was completely reinterpreted,
and all of the vocals were rerecorded, offering new interpretations
and visions of some of the Diary’s greatest moments.

2000 marked the release of Diary of Dreams fifth album and the
return to it as a solo project for Adrian, entitled One of 18
Angels
. The release will proved to be darker than any previous
release, and marked a return to the sound of earlier releases such
as Cholymelan and End of Flowers.

Three years after the release of One of 18 Angels, Diary
of Dreams delivered Freak Perfume. While being more mature,
the energy and power prevalent in their first albums was combined
brilliantly with elegant production to create a strikingly
melancholic and poetic atmosphere. Filled with club smashers and
ballads alike, Freak Perfume was the most extensive and
diverse album that Diary of Dreams ever created.

No longer a solo project in 2004, Diary of Dreams produced
Nigredo
and set the benchmark higher for other bands to aspire
to. Incorporating the energy and qualities of their former works
without relying on well-trodden paths, Nigredo was a special
kind of concept album that demonstrated the incredible musical power
of the band – and the maturity the unit around mastermind Adrian
Hates has reached. The band researched for two years in libraries
and antiquarian bookshops to create a mythology that is half real
and half fiction where legends and dreams become reality. With great
a love of detail, Diary of Dreams had created a homogenous album
that thrilled and fascinated listeners in clubs as well as in their
homes.

As a follow-up to Nigredo , Diary of Dreams presents the
mini-album MenschFeind for 2005. More than just an ordinary
sequel, MenschFeind is a pun that refers to the hatred of man
by combining the terms “man” and “foe.” The mini-album required a
set of strong nerves, musically as well as visually for Diary of
Dreams to combine the melancholy and darkness the band is famous for
with a closeness that embraces the unsuspecting listener almost
uncomfortably and will refuse to let go! MenschFeind is not
quiet or peaceful or even mystical, it is the outcry of revolution.
Fans will quickly discover that the new oeuvre is no second rate
Nigredo
material! All of the tracks are brand new and exclusive
to MenschFeind. True to their usual detail loving nature,
Diary of Dreams has created a dark and apocalyptic vision that
follows-up Nigredo beautifully.

Releasedate: 17.02.2006 www.allmyfaults.info
all:my:faults was originally founded in zwingenberg, germany, on march 13th,
2003 by steve:becker who had just left his old alternative band where he sang
and played bass. he always had ideas that didn’t quite fit in an alternative
combo and after he had left, he began writing more of his own music and
performed alone in some local clubs.
despite not having too much success with his former band, a:m:f pressed forward
more than expected, yet steve:becker didn’t want to play gigs just on his own
using tapes for everything but vocals and guitars, so he concentrated on the
songwriting and waited for the right live musicians to launch a:m:f as live act.
he released some press demos, continued writing songs and performing them on his
own at private shows. going new musical ways, atmosphaeric, conterintuitive-melancholic
with earwick-melodies and roots in goth-pop and darkwave he delivered all
qualities of a resounding success, decorated with modern keyboard-elements and
driving guitar-sounds.
with “your anniversary” the first official release of a song on the
newcomer-sampler “return to light vol. 01″ came out under the label bright light
records in march 2004 and another press release called ‘euthanasia: memento mori’
followed shortly after.

fast forward to winter 2004. after beeing asked to play some gigs in german
clubs and some in luxembourg, steve:becker finally found two fellows to work
with for the live performances as session musicians. danny:riedner (ex
black.in.mind, angerecton & mechanical moth) delivered the live guitars and
ethan:kemp (ton sur ton) played keys and supported steve:beckers voice with
backing vocals. thomas th (th-industry)
joined the live lineup to arrange the synths and more keyboards at several shows
and is up to now a:m:f session musician and good friend of the band.
well, back to winter 2004. it seemed like steve, danny and ethan matched
perfectly, so they decided to create the future of all:my:faults together. a
month later jonas:greene (ex byrons forgotten feast [los angeles] and ex
angerecton) was hired for additional vocals and keys to complete the live lineup
for now. danny and jonas already worked together as bandmates of the deathmetal
act angerecton (rip) so it was not much of a surprise that the new supplement
was very well from the first moment on. all:my:faults played a few gigs in
germany, some announced, some not, and the response was amazing. juiced by an
overwhelming fan response after the last live gig they played and a wealth of
ideas for new material the band decided to concentrate even more on their future
success. steve expanded his studio in zwingenberg to increase the quality of the
newest production and danny and jonas left angerecton to fully concentrate on
all:my:faults.
only few weeks later it showed up, that the line up wasn‚t so perfect and in
april 2005 the band parted ways with ethan:kemp due to his lack of motivation.
steve, danny and jonas began a creative marathon of writing songs and lyrics for
their upcoming promo, working on their live performance and creating demanding
artworks to support the bands appearance and image.

after two years of working alone steve:becker finally found two guys who where
willing to play a major role in the band he created. danny:riedner wrote new,
demanding guitars on all existing all:my:faults songs and the bands style went
in a slightly harder direction with more rock and metal influences and
jonas:greene who already designed artworks for bright-light-records and bands
from many different genres served a brandnew logo and created a new look for the
band’s releases and homepage.
a great surprise none expected was martin:wickler aka sathonys (agathodaimon),
who decided to join the a:m:f lineup as guitarist and additional singer after a
few rehearsals in july 2005. his musical ability and his long-time experience
with different well known bands and magazines are of huge value for
all:my:faults and with him, new influences supplement the stylistic variety of
new songs again.
the digestion of very personal feelings of steve:becker are still one of the
main aspects for the lyrics to deal with and his great new ideas for songs
surprise the band and the audience again and again. new lyrical influences by
jonas:greene (’fallen’,'don’t forget your valentine’ etc) and the new lead and
rhythm guitars, written and played by danny:riedner and martin:wickler can be
heard on the 2005 a:m:f recordings.

all:my:faults’s official e.p. “anger manifest” will be recorded between july and
october 2005 and released by the end of 2005. new live gigs are planned to
promote this upcoming release”
