A Halloween Costume Hat to Complete the Outfit
By Dean Forster

Halloween, the most wonderful and exciting time of year. It is a time of year where people become someone or something that they have never been before. Your first grade teacher might have actually transformed into a scary witch or your best friend may seem to be Harry Potter, the options are endless for who you can be. But there is one thing that makes a costume complete. Your outfit must have a Halloween costume hat to be complete. A witch is not a witch without a black pointy hat. A cowboy is nothing without his hat.

Do you have an infant or toddler that you are shopping for a Halloween costume? Keep in mind that toddlers and infants do not like to wear things on their heads. If you get a costume that has something for their head to wear you will not be successful. Either your child will become upset for you forcing them to wear something they do not really like or you will become upset due to the fact that they continue to pull the hat off their head and throw it on the ground. So, keep costumes for infants and toddlers simple. This will make your Halloween experience much more enjoyable.

Perhaps you do not have any children, but you feel that your pet should be able to join in on the fun. You are in luck if this is you! Many animal costumes are available online, at pet stores, and in catalogues. Cats, dogs, horses, birds, and other small animals can have fun this Halloween. Most costumes for dogs slip over their front legs and require a hat to be worn. A Halloween costume hat is a main costume for cats, usually. Birds would look adorable in a cowboy hat or sombrero. You can dress your horses up as unicorns, dragons, or anything you wish.

Cheap costume ideas might consist of a homemade and a store bought Halloween costume hat. Often times you can find great Halloween costume ideas in your parents’ closet. Old clothes are great to dress up in. Bridesmaid dresses and old prom dresses would work great for your teenage daughter who wants to be a princess for Halloween. You would only have to buy a tiara or princess hat for her to make the costume complete. Hats might also include wigs. You can easily make a clown outfit by using old bed sheets, a wig, and a pair of oversized shoes. Halloween doesn’t have to be “scarily” expensive. Just look around the home for costume ideas and you might only have to buy a few accessories to go with it.

When deciding on an outfit you can either think of a costume and then add a Halloween costume hat or find the hat first and add to it. The choice is yours. Let your imagination run wild because Halloween only comes once a year. Let the hat make your costume. Be creative and have fun. Work with your budget and don’t go into debt making your one day fun. Enjoy your Halloween night and be safe.

Halloween & Hounds
By Jennifer Shryock

Halloween is “fright night” for humans not dogs. Screaming, running, spooky children in masks make many dogs uncomfortable, nervous and frightened.

Halloween costumes are fun and are meant to disguise our normal appearance. Dogs do not understand this change in appearance and may become frightened. Costumes that change the way a person walks, stands, or their general appearance may cause a dog to react different then usual even with those they know.

Keep in mind that children on Halloween night are excited and doing their best to be scary. This is not a fair or safe situation to put even the best of dogs in. Even the normally terrific tolerant family dog can find this night hard to handle.

Along with costumes being frightening to a dog there are some that may become interesting too. Swords, tails and dangling things may be fun for an excited dog to chase and toddlers certainly won’t appreciate that.

Every child and every costume is a new opportunity for different reactions from the same dog.

I recommend setting up your dog with their own private Halloween bash in a safe quiet spot with a yummy treat of their own. Here are some tips to help make this safe haven most comfortable.

1. Stuff a food dispensing toy with yummy mush and freeze it until it is “Halloween” time.

2. Use a fan or radio for white noise. Something consistent is best.

3. Be sure the blinds are down or the dog is not watching kids coming and going by the window. This will only frustrate him and allow him to practice barking and carrying on at the window.

Chocolate is toxic to dogs. Put candy in a safe spot.

Many dogs are stolen, poisoned or injured by Halloween pranks. Keep your dog safe and sound inside your home.

Be safe and aware and have fun!

Halloween Costumes
By Sophie Beck

The time to start thinking about Halloween costumes is near, there are so many choices it seems and before you know it Halloween will be here and we will be scrambling for costumes. The stores have begun to stock the shelves with every kind of sweets and goodies available and trick-or-treating is on every child’s mind. It is a very fun time for both kids and adults alike; imaginations go wild with ideas for costumes, decorations and parties.

When it comes to Halloween costumes there are endless choices to choose from, everything from movie characters and cartoon characters to pirates, princesses and witches. Local grocery and drug stores have racks of ready-made costumes that get the little ones excited every time you go shopping. These costumes are great for a last minute save or if your not planning on saving the costume for someone else another year, they tend to rip or tear and come apart very easily sometimes even before the big event. They are usually made of a plastic material and come with a hard plastic mask. While they are not on my top list for first choice in Halloween costumes, they are very affordable and come in a wide selection of characters to choose from.

If you are looking for a more durable Halloween costume then definitely check out the local costume stores. Along with costumes they also carry make-up, wigs and accessories needed to make every costume complete. You can usually find wonderful party and yard decorations if you are planning on having a costume party or haunted house for kids or adults. Another great place to find perfect Halloween costumes is online. At these online retailers you can find virtually any costume or accessory you are looking for. Costumes purchased from costume stores are made durable and higher quality. They can be saved for future Halloween’s to come if stored properly. Another great feature about the online stores is that you can find the hard to find costumes in a wider range of sizes, from very small to plus sizes.

Lets not forget our four legged friends when thinking costumes. Its fun to include your pets is the festivities. Just remember when dressing your pets in a costume that they not be to tight or loose. Your pet needs to be able to walk around freely and be able to relieve him or herself when they need to. You want the costume to move with your pet and not get tangled or catch on everything they walk by. Local costume store and costume stores online have a very large variety of selections when it comes to pet Halloween costumes.

Another great feature about the online costume stores is that you can find Halloween costumes for groups of individuals and families such as the “Adams Family”, “Three Stooges”, “Fantastic Four”, “Teenage Mutant Turtles” and the “Beverly Hillbillies”, all in one place and the right size needed for everyone. Here is another great group Harry potter and all of his friends and teachers, yep they have them all. Just remember to shop early to ensure you and your family gets the costumes you all want. Standard shipping usually takes seven to ten days and express shipping is available if needed.

Just remember to keep it fun and enjoy the time spent with family and friends. Remember that Halloween can also be scary for some children and pets, this is when funny happy costumes are probably the best way to go, it’s not all about the spooky and scary for everyone. Halloween brings out the child in all of us, it’s a time to carve pumpkins, tell spooky or funny stories, have parties and dress-up in funny Halloween costumes. Happy Halloween!
