Hi,i am Audioghost,OKC techno slacker. This article is about some of the songs that influenced my journey in rave and dark culture.this will be a series where i will share personal anecdotes about the scene i grew up in and the songs that changed me into the lovable outcast i am today.
DeathRocker Memories
1.Love like blood-killing joke This is the first song i remeber that made me think of life in existential terms.this may be the first song i heard that i would now consider gothic.
2.How soon is now-The Smiths The first time i heard morrisey whine, i knew it was the bravest exposure of emotion i’d ever encoutered.
3.Lucretia my reflection-Sisters of mercy i admit i was tripping balls the first time i heard this watching a deathrocker chick named lisa hayes dancing in a circle, black lace cape floating on air.The song had an ethereal quality that would haunt me for days on end.
4.every day is halloween-ministry I first heard this song when i was in treatment for some teenage bullsh*t depression.A kid with Robert Smith hair named
eric hallford showed it to me an a walkman(tape it was ‘89).up to this time i was mostly into synth pop like erasue and depeche mode.the metaphor has stuck with me to this day.every day is halloween a mixture of bitter and sweet.
5.brand new lover-dead or alive This song is signifigant because it made me wanna be a rockstar, cheezy, dark, and brilliant.i heard this song and thought “i could learn to write this”.
Next time I will discuss 5 more old school classics and my person recollections of the times.
