Reviews

A review is an evaluation of a publication, such as a movie, video game, musical composition, book, or a piece of hardware like a car, appliance, or computer. In addition to a critical statement, the review’s author may assign the work a rating (for instance, one to five stars) to indicate its relative merit. More loosely, an author may review current events or items in the news.

A compilation of reviews may itself be called a review. The New York Review of Books, for instance, is a collection of essays on literature, culture, and current affairs. National Review, founded by William F. Buckley, Jr., is an influential conservative magazine, and Monthly Review is a long-running socialist periodical.

In terms of scientific literature, reviews are a category of scientific paper, which provides a synthesis of research on a topic at that moment in time. A compilation of these reviews forms the core content of a ‘tertiary’ scientific journal, with examples including Annual Reviews, the Nature Reviews series of journals and Trends.

Nine Inch Nails With Teeth Rock Music CD Review By Clyde Lee Dennis Richly talented Nine Inch Nails have released their latest CD titled With Teeth and Wow! It’s really a good one. It’s a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I can truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I’m more than happy to announce that’s exactly what I must say about this one. There simply isn’t a bad one in the bunch. No fillers here at all, with each song standing tall on it’s own. One of the nicer things about a CD like this is when the talent is this rich even if Rock isn’t your favorite style you still can’t help but appreciate the greatness of the musicians. Overall With Teeth is an outstanding release. What I call must have music. I give it two thumbs up and is most definitely a worthy addition to any Rock collection. Truly an outstanding Rock CD. One of those that is completely void of any wasted time, as each track is simply superb. While the entire album is really very good some of my favorites are track 1 – All The Love In The World, track 6 – Every Day Is Exactly The Same, and track 13 – Right Where It Belongs My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore …as in “Stuck On REpeat” is track 12 – Beside You In Time. Good stuff! With Teeth Release Notes: Nine Inch Nails originally released With Teeth on May 3, 2005 on the Interscope Records label. CD Track List Follows: 1. All The Love In The World 2. You Know What You Are? 3. Collector, The 4. Hand That Feeds, The 5. Love Is Not Enough 6. Every Day Is Exactly The Same 7. With Teeth 8. Only 9. Getting Smaller 10. Sunspots 11. Line Begins To Blur, The 12. Beside You In Time 13. Right Where It Belongs Nine Inch Nails: Trent Reznor (vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar). Additional personnel: Dave Grohl (drums). Porcupine Tree Deadwing Rock Music CD Review By Clyde Lee Dennis Deadwing is the latest Rock CD put out by the extremely group Porcupine Tree and they have once again delivered a brilliant collection of tracks. I’m confident Porcupine Tree fans, and Rock fans alike will be pleased with this one. Unfortunately, it’s not everyday that I get a CD for review that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just can’t force myself to get through. Not at all the case with Deadwing. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish. One of the refreshingly nice things about this CD is the way all of the participating artists seem to be really enjoying themselves. Combine that with the overall presentation and you’ve got one of Porcupine Tree most impressive releases ever. Overall Deadwing is an outstanding release. What I call must have music. I give it two thumbs up and is most definitely a worthy addition to any Rock collection. Truly an outstanding Rock CD. One of those that is completely void of any wasted time, as each track is simply superb. While this entire CD is really very good the truly standout tunes are track 5 – Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, track 8 – The Start Of Something Beautiful, and track 9 – Glass Arm Shattering. My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore …as in “Stuck On REpeat” is track 6 – Mellotron Sctatch. This is a great track! Deadwing Release Notes: Porcupine Tree originally released Deadwing on April 26, 2005 on the Lava Records label. CD Track List Follows: 1. Deadwing 2. Shallow 3. Lazarus 4. Halo 5. Coldplay X and Y Rock Music CD Review By Clyde Lee Dennis Not sure what’s happening with me on this one, but it seems like the more I listen to it, the better X and Y gets. X and Y put simply is one of their best CDs to date. Refreshingly, this was one of those CDs I was able to just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish. X and Y has a pleasantly varied, mix of 13 tracks that are very well written and brilliantly performed songs by these clearly gifted musicians. Most of the songs display a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Seemingly drawing from what I can only imagine are their own personal experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions of love, and the pain of failed relationships can certainly be heard. If you’re a Coldplay fan this is a CD your collection flat cannot be without. In fact, this is one of those CDs that you don’t even have to be a fan of lname, or even Rock to know is good. It’s just good music. Period. While the entire CD is outstanding some of my favorites are track 1 – Square One, track 7 – Speed Of Sound, and track 13 – Til Kingdom Come My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore …as in “Stuck On REpeat” is track 10 – The Hardest Part. Outstanding! X and Y Release Notes: Coldplay originally released X and Y on June 7, 2005 on the Capitol / EMI Records label. CD Track List Follows: 1. Square One 2. What If 3. White Shadows 4. Fix You 5. Talk 6. X&Y 7. Speed Of Sound 8. Message, A 9. Low 10. Hardest Part, The 11. Swallowed In The Sea 12. Twisted Logic 13. Til Kingdom Come – (hidden track) Coldplay: Chris Martin (vocals, piano); Jonny Buckland (guitar); Guy Berryman (bass guitar); Will Champion (drums). Additional personnel: Matt McGinn (guitar); Brian Eno (synthesizer). Bizarre Magazine Review By Malcolm Ord Bizarre Magazine Beauties Bizarre beauties are the cover women. They are definitely beautiful but they generally have some link to the bizarre. Fetishists, BDSM models, and heavily painted and pierced girls are a regular feature so if that is your kind of thing then this is definitely the lads mag for you. Be warned, though, if you have a heart condition then you should avoid the Bizarre magazine altogether because it definitely isn’t for the faint hearted. Reviews And More Bizarre reviews cover everything that can firmly be categorized as weird, odd, and often depraved. Sex shows, dark fantasies, and outright odd films are all covered in great detail in this section. As well as visual entertainment Bizarre also reviews books, other magazines, and even websites. As a general rule you may find it difficult to find these reviews in other men’s magazines. Weird Features Mondo-Bizarro is perhaps the most characteristic of all the sections in Bizarre magazine. It is the equivalent of the usual features section but these features are a little out of the ordinary. Recent examples have included an educational, and eye opening, piece on hypno-fetishism. Apparently, there are a reasonable number of people that find being hypnotised a sexually arousing experience. Another example that included an incredible picture profile was the coverage of the Sideshow Convention in Pennsylvania. Yes, really. Odd Movies Bizarre movies is dedicated to weird and wonderful film titles that are currently in production or about to be released. Films like Jack Ass the movie and similarly disturbed title get the respect and coverage that they deserve. Titanic is unlikely to be featured in this section. More Bizarre From Bizarre Magazine There are plenty of other sections to get your teeth into as well. Reader’s tattoos is a slightly unusual twist on the usual reader’s submissions but gives us all the perfect opportunity to show off our most outlandish skin art. There are numerous full body part tattoos with some incredibly fine artwork involved. They are definitely fascinating whether you’re a tattoo fan or not. Unlike Any Other Men’s Magazine You Will Ever Read Make no mistake when you take advantage of this magazine subscription offer, Bizarre may be categorised as a men’s magazine or a lads mag but similar to Loaded or FHM it certainly is not. If it isn’t weird or odd or sick or depraved then it doesn’t have a place in this fantastically unique magazine. If this is your kind of thing then a subscription will go a long way to satiate your desire for bizarre news, reviews, and features. from Bizarre Magazine magsite is a uk magazine subscription company.

Amyl Nitrate is a side-project of Black Swan Insurgency that I find quite intoxicating. Richy X is a talented song writer who is motivated by the driving thud of technology and machinery much in the same way I am. The song ‘Accessoires’ draws something dark from deep inside of me, that dark something that draws me in and leads me to something beautiful. I find both Amyl Nitrate and Black Swan Insurgency very powerful, but feel maybe they have stereotyped American’s just a bit. At any rate, these two projects are well worth a listen. http://www.myspace.com/blackswaninsurgency http://www.myspace.com/amylnytrate

Prince of Persia The Sands of Time Movie Review by: John Lee Prince of Persia The Sands of Time is a throwback to the action packed movie serials of the old days. Absolutely gorgeous CGI cinematography and special effects makes this a “must see” movie on anybody’s list. Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) is the adopted third son of King Sharaman (Ronald Pickup) of Persia. As the movie starts the King gets word that a neighboring Holy City has accumulated powerful weapons of mass destruction that the people plan to use against Persia. As a preemptive move (sound familiar?) the King sends a small attack force, led by Dastan, into the city to capture the city and the weapons. After the successful capture of the city, the beautiful princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) and the hanging of the Mission Accomplished banner, King Sharaman arrives to lecture and scold the people. As a reward for his heroic behavior, the King also decides to give the captured princess Tamina to Dastan as a wife. But before the King can make it official he is murdered, and his son Dastan is framed for the killing. Dastan escapes the city with Tamina and a magical dagger that has time-travelling powers. The rest of the movie deals with the 2 outlaws trying to evade capture long enough to clear Dastan’s name and find the real killer of his father. Not only are they in pursuit by the King’s army, but others who wish to control the power of the dagger are also trying to capture Dastan and Tamina. Prince of Persia The Sands of Time is based upon a popular computer game created back in 1989. In that game you controlled a character (prince) through a series of increasingly difficult levels until you got to the end. This movie tries to give the same type of feel as playing a video game. Dastan and Tamina travel through a series of frenetic chase scenes where they must elude their followers. At the end of each “level” they find themselves at the beginning of a new challenge more difficult than before. This movie is visually stunning, just as you would expect from a Walt Disney movie produced by the now legendary Jerry Bruckheimer. He was the one that adapted that old theme park boat ride to the movies in that blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean. Now Prince of Persia The Sands of Time is not as good as Pirates of the Caribbean. It’s not that the story is lacking or that the movie doesn’t look spectacular. The missing ingredient is Johnny Depp. With Depp, Bruckheimer caught lightning in a battle. The Pirates of the Caribbean movies would not have been nearly as good without him and his many memorable quotes. Jake Gyllenhaal is a very good actor (Brokeback Mountain), but he just doesn’t have the charisma of Johnny Depp. But if you don’t try to compare the 2 movies then you will have a great time watching Prince of Persia The Sands of Time. Two performances worth singling out are those of Ben Kingsley as Nizam, Dastan’s uncle and Alfred Molina as Amar, the humorous leader of a band of outlaws. Kingsley is always great in whatever he’s in, and he gives the movie a sense of authenticity in every scene in which he appears. Alfred Molina is just damn funny. As the outlaw leader who makes a living racing Ostriches, he easily gets the movie’s best lines. Whatever you do, do not leave your seat during the last 30 minutes of this movie. The epic battle that ends this film is a gorgeous-looking action-adventure spectacle that you will not forget anytime soon. Supposedly, Jake Gyllenhaal trained with an expert for months in parkour to get through the finale. About The Author John Lee is the creator and owner of one of the Internet’s most popular movie review and trailer websites.
