By Duvall “Duvy” Gilchrist-Montgomery This is a very passionate rock album. Normally, I have to listen to an album quiet a few times before I love it, but this one caught me with the very first track. I don’t really like to compare artists, but Red mixes my favorite things about Linkin Park and Breaking Benjamin [...]

Original Jane’s Addiction, Nine Inch Nails to Tour Crediting the definition of “alternative rock” in the U.S. to the Jane’s Addiction-Nine Inch Nails tour that spawned Lollapalooza in the early ’90s, NIN frontman Trent Reznor recently announced plans to go back on tour with a reunited Jane’s Addiction. The “Nothing’s Shocking” rockers disbanded in 1991, following an internal conflict of personalities that [...]

Gothic Must haves

Gothic Must haves: (if you love gothic music, you better roll back to where it all started, I even marked my favorites.) Siouxsie & the Banshees – Juju (1981)  Following three records arguably confused by keyboards, Sioux & Co. strip the sound down, sharpening guitars and compelling Budgie to unleash the spooky drums. He obliges, providing his Chanteuse [...]

The Problem With Music

Posted by Duvy On January - 8 - 2008 Comments Off
The Problem With Music by Steve Albini Whenever I talk to a band who are about to sign with a major label, I always end up thinking of them in a particular context. I imagine a trench, about four feet wide and five feet deep, maybe sixty yards long, filled with runny, decaying shit. I imagine these [...]

Darkfaery Subculture Magazine has been an underground alternative source for music, costume, and art enthusiasts since it launched as ‘dark zine’ on the streets of Dallas, Texas in 1985. It has since undergone several transformations since moving to Oklahoma City from the paper zine known as The Vampire.s Playground in 1993 to the diskette compuzine of the same name, until finally it reached a large enough fan base to become Darkfaery Subculture Magazine Online in 1997. Through the years it has been DFSM’s mission to bring together the underground music, art, and fashion scenes who have, in the past, tried to remain exclusive and reclusive unto themselves. DFSM is committed to stamping out pretension among the genres so that fans and industry professionals can come together to create something memorable, and darkly beautiful, for years to come. DFSM reflects a unique lifestyle which both its readers and publishers strive to be a part of. Featuring and attending local events, conventions, and faires, DFSM continues to transcend the labels and prejudices placed upon the freakish, interesting, weird world upon which we live.
