Find a DJ With the Latest DJ Equipment
By Jeff L

To be able to succeed as a DJ, one must be equipped with a great variety of music, first and foremost, have a great genre to choose from and to play, because if it is a wedding in Toronto that you as a DJ will be performing, then it is vital that you are able to give the crowd everything that they want to hear.

Another difference maker for a party is for the DJ to come fully equipped with certain crops to make the arty, be it a wedding, prom, bar mitzvah or corporate event more enjoyable. Some of the crops could include dry ice, noise makers, disco balls, fancy lighting and much more. It is important that a DJ has a lot of the latest equipment including crops because that is what will show you as a consumer if you are choosing a reputable and responsible DJ for your next event.

Another important consideration is the way the music is played. In that the equipment is very important, things such as speakers, type of mp3 players, or if you are a traditionalist, turntables to spin your music. Sound quality along with the way to spin your music is so vital for the guests and party goers that a DJ should have the latest equipment. What about a microphone? Equally as important for a DJ to have a nice one to be heard when he or she is speaking, they need to be heard. Make sure that a DJ you will be planning to hire has all that in place.

With all that said, Surround Sound DJ has covered all their grounds. From great genres of music variety, awesome sound and lighting systems in place, they will make your party a true experience, be it a wedding in Toronto, school prom, corporate event or bar mitzvah. As well, Surround Sound DJ has all the latest crops to add that spice to your function allowing them to make it truly memorable. Want a fun night with a DJ of choice, look no further than Surround Sound DJ.

The Ting Tings - How They Got To Number One

The Ting Tings are this year’s biggest indie success. The Ting Tings were
hatched in The Islington Mill, a bohemian enclave of Salford, Manchester.
Tainted by their previous experiences of the music industry, the duo
(singer/ bass drummer/ guitarist Katie White and singer/ drummer Jules De
Martino) stripped back their sound, focused on big pop hooks and hunkered
down. By their third show at The Mill, the industry that had previously
ignored them, came flocking.

The band’s first single, a limited 7” of
‘That’s Not My Name’, was released by local indie label Switch flicker in
the summer of 2007. It was followed by ‘Fruit Machine’ in autumn, and after
much hype, major label Columbia Records eventually snapped them up. In
November 2007, White and De Martino entered the Xfm Manchester studios for
the first time, recording a session for Clint Boon’s Music: Response, which
you can listen to by clicking here.

And with their star clearly on the rise,
the band were invited to perform at Xfm Manchester’s Winter Wonderland,
along with The Charlatans and The Cribs. Watch their set by clicking here
and check out the gallery here. ‘Great DJ’ became the band’s first UK hit in
March 2008, entering the singles chart at No. 33, and to celebrate they
performed an exclusive acoustic version for Clint back in January. Listen to
the acoustic session on XFM. This was around the time when Xfm Online sat
down with both band members for an in-depth chat all about their forthcoming
album ‘We Started Nothing’, as well as the current workings of the music
industry. ‘That’s Not My Name’, their second Columbia single, toppled
Madonna for the No. 1 spot.

As an amazing year began to draw to a close, the
pair’s debut album was released on May 19, not only to rave critical
reviews, but also the No. 1 position in the album charts. The Ting Tings
were no longer just an indie band from Manchester, but a chart sensation
ready to take on the world. In May, the band dropped by the Xfm studios in
London yet again for Live From Leicester Square, performing a set which as
well as included their latest hits and a fine cover of Kings Of Leon’s ‘The
Bucket’. Now, we wait impatiently for next single ‘Shut Up And Let Me Go’
out on July 21 and currently sidetracking the new iPod advert. As far as
festivals go, they’ll be packing out the tents at Glastonbury, T in the Park
and the Reading/Leeds Festival. After the incredible success of debut album
‘We Started Nothing’, The Ting Tings still have much to conquer.

Marilyn Manson Demented Master of Horror Rock is Shocking the World
By Vin Hayes

As a child, Manson was molested by a neighbor several times before confessing what was going on to his mother. It seems that his sexual actions have developed since he was very young since that event. The young Manson got into all sorts of adventures and impish behavior, including looking at his grandfathers’ collection of sex toys and creating porn magazines for classmates. As an adult he exhibits these characteristics in many of his music videos.

While in college, Manson studied acting and journalism, the latter benefiting him with a job as a reporter for a rock magazine after he was fired from his job at a record store. While a reporter he interviewed Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails who would eventually become Mansons’ co-producer for a while. As a result of studying theater, Manson has acted in several movies and created music videos with experience.

The band Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids came to life in 1989 while Manson was working as a reporter for a magazine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he lived during his college career. He attended rock clubs frequently in addition to his job and became influenced by musicians like Ozzy Osbourne and the band KISS. He made the band with a few other musicians that had the same interests as he did and excelled. Eventually the original name of Manson’s band was shortened to Marilyn Manson in 1992.

The members of The Spooky Kids all took first names of girls and last names of murderers to complete the set, although many of the original members quit and were replaced sometime after. Manson and Trent Reznor came together a second time and collaborated to produce Manson’s first three albums: Portrait of an American Family, AntiChrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals. To date, Mechanical Albums is the most popular and successful of Manson’s albums.

Manson has said that the band’s purpose was to push the laws of censorship to the brink, which has obviously been done. As a young man he was very interested in the debate about censorship and freedom of speech that was going on at the time and strive to break through the restrains of these laws. The band has been named one of the most controversial bands in history and some of the videos and album covers produced have been banned or changed in areas of the world. For example, the album cover for Mechanical Animals was edited in Japan because of Manson having six fingers on his left hand and (interestingly) not because he was posing as a naked alien.

Other projects that Manson contributed to were the bands Jack Off Jill, Satan on Fire, and Mrs. Scabtree. Jack Off Jill was to allow Manson to play in clubs that, by contract, his own band could not play in. He also helped name the band and worked as the producer for it before going into his own musical desires. Manson has also acted in several movies and performed for the Queen of the Damned soundtrack.

Although Manson seems to be a scary person, he has admitted to becoming everything that he was scared of as a child. This, he says, is part of what makes it so easy to be this person. He confesses that he is actually a bit frightened by shopping malls (although saying that it’s the ONLY thing he’s scared of).

In addition to being a musician he is also a poet, author, and artist. He enjoys making watercolor paintings at 3 AM with a chilled glass of absinthe to drink. He has sold his artwork to celebrities like Jack Osbourne during art exhibits.

Marilyn’s interesting hobbies include collecting prosthetic limbs and old metal lunch boxes. A while back, a lawsuit was issued to Manson for “buying a child’s skeleton and masks made of human skin”. It seems that his actions have earned him five lawsuits known to the public so far, mostly with charges of misconduct. Most of the lawsuits ended in Manson’s favor or were unresolved.

Due to his trademark black leather pants, the PETA named Marilyn as one of the worst dressed celebrities of 2008. That’s a little harsh, don’t you think? His other trademarks, which are heavy makeup and the colored contact lenses he wears in his left eye, have caught much less flack. The white face makeup, or “pancake makeup” is ruining his skin, however. I’ve seen pictures of him without his makeup on and his face is suffering. The lipstick is definitely my favorite part because of his perfect, full lips. Manson also sports a silver grill every once in a while.

Not surprisingly, he has a load of tattoos, spanning from 1994 to the present, the latest being the trademark spiral heart. There have been people calling him “The Illustrated Man”. Some people speculate that the tattoos on his inner arms are to cover the scars from his youth when he self-harmed and that getting the tattoos is of the same nature as self-harming for him. Manson himself says that it was like a “permanent Halloween costume” for him. He used to dress in Halloween attire all the time when he was a kid and thinks it may have been brought over into his adult life. What could be better fitting for Marilyn Manson?

Tips on Karaoke Vocal Singing Techniques
By Christine Durham

Do you want your karaoke songs to stand out from the crowd? Singing karaoke songs is the same as singing any other songs. Even though the KJ at the karaoke bar can alter the key and the pitch on the songs to better match your voice, better singing techniques will empower you to deliver a better show.

Learning and practicing these singing techniques will go a long ways toward letting you belt out those karaoke songs like the star you are. You will find that you can develop a stronger voice, with a better range. You will be able to hit more notes easily without straining. Your breath will last longer so that you don’t end up having to stop in the middle of a line to take a breath. You will be more relaxed. All in all, your karaoke songs will sound a hundred times better than before you knew all this good stuff. So let’s get started.

Warm Up Exercises

Just as athletes warm up before a game or a workout, you should always warm up your voice before you sing. Here are some good warm up exercises:

1. Take a deep breath while you count slowly to four. Hold it while you count to four again. Then let it out with a hissing sound, or a ssssssssssssssss sound while you count to eight. Do this a few times. You can vary the counts also.

2. Take a deep breath. Sing “aaaaahhhhhh” until you run out of breath. Let your voice start quietly, and then get louder and louder as you let your breath out.

3. Sironing. This technique lets you warm up your entire range of your voice. Start as low as you can. Then go up to your highest note you can. Then go back down to your lowest note again.

4. Sing your scales with each vowel sound. Do the “do-ra-me-fah-so-la-te-do” up and back again.

5. Say some tongue twisters as fast as you can to warm up your tongue, your cheeks, your lips, and your mouth.

Breathing With Your Diaphragm

One of the most important vocal techniques you can learn to enable you to sing your karaoke songs like a pro is to breathe with your diaphragm. This is the area below your rib cage. You can feel it expand to bring more air when you take a really deep breath. Concentrate on keeping your lungs expanded, using up the entire space provided to you when your diaphragm is expanded. When you breathe out, don’t push out the air, but let it escape with your melodious notes. This is naturally a hard thing to do, but, with practice, you will notice that your voice is much stronger and easier to control.

Raising Your Soft Palate

There is an area at the top of the back of your mouth called the soft palate. You can feel it rise up when you start to yawn. When it rises, it opens up your throat. Concentrate on keeping this soft palate raised while you’re singing your karaoke songs, and your voice will sound better.

Keeping Your Voice Box Low

You also want to learn to keep your larynx, or voice box, lower. You can feel it in your neck, at the front of your throat. Put your hand on it, and practice vocalizing a note without the larynx rising. This may take awhile. When you’ve accomplished this, move on to practicing your karaoke songs while keeping your larynx down.

Relax

Your karaoke songs also sound their best when you are relaxed. Release all the tension from your body, and especially your upperbody, neck, and throat. Here’s a trick that works: Lie down. Totally relax. Then imagine any tension that is left moving out of your body as you flex and then release every muscle, one by one, starting from your toes and working up.

By the time you get to your head, you are one relaxed singer! Stand back up, move your head around to make sure there is no tension, and sing!

Congratulations! You’ve just learned some professional tips to help you sing great karaoke songs. Practice them, and then go out and have fun!

———————————————————
