Woman stabs self during Wiccan ritual

Accident happens during good-luck ritual
The Associated Press
updated 5:24 p.m. CT, Tues., July. 22, 2008

LEBANON, Ind. – A woman accidentally stabbed herself in the foot with a 3-foot-long sword while performing a Wiccan good luck ritual at a cemetery in central Indiana.

Katherine Gunther, 36, of Lebanon, pierced her left foot with the sword while performing the rite at Oak Hill Cemetery, police said.

Gunther said she was performing the ceremony to give thanks for a recent run of good luck. The ceremony involves the use of candles, incense and driving swords into the ground during the full moon.

Gunther said was aiming to put the sword in the ground, but hit her foot instead.

“It wasn’t the first time I performed the ritual, but it was the first time I put a sword through my foot,” she said.

Gunther immediately pulled the sword out of her foot, and her companions took her to Witham Memorial Hospital, where she was kept a couple days for treatment.

No charges were filed, police said. The Wiccans were warned that being in the cemetery in the city about 20 miles northwest of Indianapolis after posted visiting hours constitutes trespassing.

Wicca is a nature-based religion based on respect for the earth, nature and the cycle of the seasons.

Venue
October 8 Beach Tiki Party
October 9, 10, 11, 12 Caixa Económica
CAIXA ECONÓMICA OPERÁRIA
Rua Voz do Operário, 64
Lisboa – PORTUGAL
October 13 TBA

General Info:
Early October will be an ideal combination of beach weather (with beach party on October 8 ) and low season prices.
Drop Dead Festival is a DIY community festival that spotlights great underground music overlooked by the mainstream. Festival booking tends to favor weirder bands and sounds but genres booked have included mutant disco, batcave, deathrock, weird wave punk, wave, ndw, electro and synthpunk anarcho, goth, experimental psychobilly, rockabilly , and more in the past

Drop Dead Festival History:
I am often asked by people who have never been to the Drop Dead Festival, what is it… Although its hard to describe Drop Dead Festival, you really do have to be there here is some background:
We started out in NYC 6 years ago in the legendary CBGBs club, and following years also held in in Limelight and Knitting Factory
Festival has grown and became the best known and largest festival for the really underground and outside of mainstream stuff.
From day one of the main goals of the festival was to give bands that are ignored by mainstream a larger audience and to help dj’s promoters and clubs from across the world who work with this type of music to meet each other and work together.
In nyc we worked hard on introducing post punk, gothic punk and deathrock scenes to the horror punk and surf and psychobiology and rockabilly scenes. Although people really liked the new music they found many of them really didn’t know about it before the festival. We usually had 3 floors with multiple stages and a dance floor as well as movie screenings, and other events.
We also try to book weirder bands as well as some NDW, wave, electro punk, anarcho punk and more.
Many of those type of bands have followings that are very fanatical and follow only that type of music.
Drop Dead has been a place for those fans to find more and to open up to new things.
The NYC and Los Angeles Drop Dead has been attended by people from all over America and the world. Over the years many people have asked us to bring the festival to Europe, and the idea appealed to us as well because it gave us a chance to book bands we couldn’t in America because of the expensive flight prices.
Last year Drop Dead Festival hit Europe for the first time – Drop Dead Festival Prague , CZ. Festival was one of the most diverse and successful DD festivals so far and in 2008 we are brining DDF back to Europe. For 2008 we will be in Lisbon Portugal Becouse of the amazing location as well as a really great music scene there.

Ravers lose vision at laser light show
Dozens of partygoers in Russia suffered eye damage, officials said

MOSCOW – Dozens of partygoers at an outdoor rave near Moscow
last week have lost partial vision after a laser light show burned their
retinas, Russian health officials said on Monday.

Moscow city health
department officials confirmed 12 cases of laser-blindness at the Central
Ophthalmological Clinic, and daily newspaper Kommersant said another 17 were
registered at City Hospital 32 in the center of the capital.

Attendees at
the July 5 Aquamarine Open Air Festival in Kirzhach, 50 miles northeast of
Moscow, began seeking medical help days after the show, complaining of eye and
vision problems, health officials told Reuters.

“They all have retinal
burns, scarring is visible on them. Loss of vision in individual cases is as
high as 80 percent, and regaining it is already impossible,” Kommersant quoted a
treating ophthalmologist as saying.

Attendees said heavy rains forced
organizers to erect massive tents for the all-night dance party, and lasers that
normally illuminate upwards into the sky were instead partially refracted into
the ravers’ eyes.

“I immediately had a spot like when you stare into the
sun,” rave-attendee Dmitry told Kommersant.

“After three days I decided
to go to the hospital. They examined me, asked if I had been at Open Air, and
then put me straight in the hospital. I didn’t even get to go home and get my
stuff,” he said.

Cosmic Connection, promoters of the Aquamarine rave,
were unreachable and did not list contact numbers on their Web site.

Industry Web site www.laserfx.com said focused laser light can cause eye damage
almost instantly.

The owner of a Moscow laser rental company told Reuters
the accidental blindings were due to “illiteracy on the part of technicians.”

“It was partly the rain, but also partly the size of the laser. Somebody set
up an extremely powerful laser for such a small space,” said Valentin Vasiliev,
who said his company did not provide the Aquamarine lasers.

Where Can I Watch Movie Trailers
By Geraldine Oaks

The query where can I watch movie trailers is not an uncommon statement of curiosity for those who enjoy watching these types of videos. Admittedly, previews, although they primarily serve as teasers to the expecting audience as they grant a glimpse of what’s in store for the in the full length film, do have some sort of individual charm as a product of the multimedia industry as well. In other words, there are people who like to watch movie trailers as they are, not because they want to see what’s in the movie, but because they simply want to watch these videos that were originally intended for advertising a supposedly bigger media product.

The good thing about movie trailers is that if you keep in mind where can you can see previews you won’t be wondering too long. This is because they do not have strong copyright technicalities because they are meant for promotional purposes, which means that advertisers wouldn’t mind if people randomly took copies of these promotional videos for their movie and post them all over the internet. This way they can actually save on advertising expenses but get more than what they actually bargained for. It’s quite a coincidental commercial strategy.

If you want to watch movie trailers online you can practically find them anywhere on the internet. As a matter of fact, they are so much easier to find than other types of videos that are posted and streamed on the internet. Plus they are usually short films so you can easily download them if you want without necessarily violating any copyright laws.

the bella foundation Dog Walk Poster

Please join The Bella Foundation on Saturday
October 4th, 2008 for their second annual “A Dog Walk in the Park”.  Our
event will include a 1.5 mile walk through the city of the Village, lots of
vendor booths, pet adoptions, lots of cool rescue groups (snakes, cats and
dogs of all shapes and sizes), food, live bands, pet demos, pet contests and
lots more.  Everyone is welcome even if you don’t have 4 legs.

sheet for both walkers and vendors can be found by going to
www.thebellafoundation.org or sending an
email request to info@thebellafoundation.org
Please pass this information on to family, friends, and even
strangers,….we need all the help we can get!!!
Feel free to print off the flyer and place it where lots of people will see
it.
